A lot of beginner skaters believe the answer is simple:
“If I just skate more, I’ll get better.”
It sounds logical.
But in practice, it often leads to frustration.
Because without focused practice, you’re not improving—you’re repeating.

Most beginners naturally fall into:
- Inside edge pronation
- Short, choppy strides
- Limited glide
- Poor balance and control
- Foot and/or back pain
And if you “just skate,” those patterns get reinforced.
That’s why progress can feel slow… or completely stuck.

The real shift happens when you start working on specific movements, especially edge control.
This is where scooting drills come in.
They break skating down into its most important components:
- Balance over one skate – on an upright CENTRE edge
- Controlled Push
- Clean Glide
- Conscious Edge Control
It might feel more challenging than just skating around,
but it’s also far more effective.
👉 Better practice = faster progress.
If you want to improve your skating, don’t just add more time.
Add better training.
