Cambridge

14 - 15 June 2025

Join Asha for a weekend of stops, slides, slopes & stride training
while touring the city and countryside around Cambridge.

We’ll work on your stopping methods & slide techniques and make them functional on slopes. You’ll skate a marathon in 2 halves on one day across the flat, smooth Fens and improve your stride & fitness skating.

Trip Itinerary

Optional Friday Night Street Skate 13th June 2025 – 1900 to 2100

The weekend kicks off with a Friday night city tour taking in the city centre, Kings College, University Library and the river. This is an optional part of the Trip.

Meeting point: Meet at Parker’s Piece at 1830

The level of skating required would be similar to a London Wednesday Night Skate with some slopes, changeable surfaces and real roads & pavements.

Saturday 14th June – 0945 to 1500

Meeting Point: Cambridge Station at 0930 for 0945 departure

We begin the weekend skating from Cambridge Station (the station nearest to Cambridge City Centre) along the “Southern Busway” cycle path, a smooth track looping through the countryside and quiet residential areas offering interesting and unique lesson spots.

We will work on your stopping techniques and slides (T-Stop, Stepping Plough Stop and Powerslides) and and visit a pump track for those wanting to try it out with Asha‘s special hand hold support. We will also look at your crossovers (forwards or backwards wherever you’re at) plus your downhill descents on a couple of awesome bridges.

Your skills will receive a thorough revision and update and you’ll emerge a more confident skater able to deal with real life situations with refined technique and prowess (that’s the idea anyway). Total distance 7 miles skating plus lesson time.

You’ll be free in the evening to explore Cambridge off skates.

Sunday 15th June – 0945 to 1600

Meeting Point: Cambridge North Station at 0930

We focus on your skating stride, efficiency and fitness while skating from Cambridge North Station to Saint Ives (and back), skating a marathon in one day (with a stop for lunch after 13 miles).

Plenty of time to polish your Stride work (improving your Push, Glide and Regroup). We will also play with some drafting and increasing your stamina and looking at arm swing options and how to skate when you feel fatigue (which is normal when skating or training for a marathon). There will also be some skater-specific stretching both pre and post skate.

The track is completely flat and extremely smooth (much like Holland) and even boasts a windmill along the way!

We aim to arrive back at Cambridge North Station at approx 4 pm when the trip will end. Storage of bags in local skaters’ cars from Sunday morning hotel check outs will be arranged via the WhatsApp group.

Ability Level Requirements

This trip is NOT appropriate for beginner skaters and all participants must be able to skate and stop confidently (using at least the heel brake). If you do not use a heel brake then you must be able to control your speed and stop on downhill slopes using any other stopping methods. The ability level of participants on the trip needs to be closely matched so that the chosen terrain and average speeds can be appropriate for everyone and allow for greater learning.
Please do NOT make any travel or accommodation arrangements until you have been officially accepted onto the trip (by email).
