Here’s the Secret to Smoother Turns & Transitions

One tiny arm tweak = smoother skating

This student analysis video focuses on an advanced #WizardSkating skill – the one-footed 3-turn (also called the Back Closed Lion in Wizard skating speak). Now, I know that only a small number of skaters are working on this exact move… but don’t skip it just yet.

Because what’s really important here isn’t the trick itself – it’s the principle behind it.

🌟 Upper body rotation.

Whether you’re:

  • holding your torso still during a straight-line stop such as a T-stop,
  • moving through a basic backwards to forwards mohawk, or
  • attempting advanced transitions and turns…

…your arm and shoulder rotation will either help you or hold you back.

In the video below, you’ll see me coaching a student whose “trailing arm ping” was sabotaging his flow. With one small adjustment, everything started to improve and a few more sessions and he’ll have it nailed.

That’s the beauty of the Skatefresh methodology: the same principles apply consistently across every level of skating. Once you understand them, you can use them again and again – to smooth out transitions, unlock new moves, or simply feel more effortless in your stride.

Skating is a lifelong journey of learning and re-learning. Paying attention to details like this can be the difference between feeling stuck… and finding that beautiful sense of flow that keeps us coming back to our wheels.
