Utrecht Stops & Slides (Intermediate Level) Sat 1 July 2023 @ 0900-1100

For those skaters already confident with their T-Stops, Plough and Turn Stops, this class will look at the more challenging sliding stops and how best to combine different stopping methods for maximum efficiency and safety on the flat and on slopes.

What you’ll learn;

  • Powerslide (from a forwards entry using your favourite transition and favourite sliding leg)
  • Soul Slide (the ‘forwards powerslide, used by the downhillers for a reason).
  • Powerstop (or Turn stop variations)
  • Magic Slide (for those with a successful pre-requisite Soul Slide)
  • How to control your speed (for future use on slopes) by combining different stopping skills and how to come to a complete stop in an emergency.

Utrecht Speed & Fitness Sat 1 July 2023 @ 1130-1330

Every skater spends MOST of their time on skates JUST SKATING!

However if your skating stride lacks the essentials, you will not get the fitness benefits that skating offers and you may create bad habits over time that can lead to ‘slow onset injuries’ (e.g. ankle, knee, hip pains from persistent pronation on an inside edge).

There are 3 parts to your skating stride; The Push, the Glide and the Regroup. All 3 must be correct for the stride to flow, look good and produce sustained high speeds.

  • Are you pushing efficiently?
  • Is your glide correct in terms of edges, balance and cadence?
  • Is your regroup maximising your stride?

Asha’s series of exercises is designed to progressively train all 3 parts of your stride and help you understand what’s needed for super smooth (and fast) skating.

PLEASE NOTE: This group lesson is not appropriate for beginner level skaters.

Utrecht Backwards & Transitions Sat 1 July 2023 @ 1500-1700

This lesson is for those new to backward skating or those who have taught themselves but skipped the basics and are stuck on more complicated backwards moves.

This class will reveal your “one-sidedness” if you are already skating backwards and how to equalise this natural unevenness.

In this workshop you’ll learn;

  • Several propulsion techniques
  • How to steer correctly
  • How to safely glide backwards
  • How to stop backwards (2 methods)
  • Mohawk Transitions (forwards to backwards and backwards to forwards).

This compact course will give you content that will keep you busy training for months but with a clear path to backwards proficiency.

This class includes a 15 minute Q&A session at the end where you can ask for Asha's advice on equipment, what's next, events, trips, street skating etc.

PLEASE NOTE: This group lesson is NOT appropriate for beginner level skaters.

Sunday 2 July 2023

Utrecht Jumps & Crossovers Sun 2 July 2023 @ 0900-1100

Jumps are a challenge because ‘the fear’ is real and your body knows one mistake could mean a painful landing. This class will help you understand why jumps are potentially dangerous and then exactly how to make them safe, each and every time.

In this class you will learn;

  • Safe take-off and landing technique
  • Forward to Forwards Jumps: High + Long jumps.
  • Forward to Backwards Jumps; Two-footed + jumped mohawk.
  • Backwards to Forwards Jumps; Two-footed.

If you do not skate backwards you do not have to learn the backward jumps versions but can perfect the forward options instead;

Forward Crossovers when done well should create smooth acceleration and admiring glances. But often they create anxiety and have a low(ish) upper speed limit. Make your weaker side feel a lot less strange.

PLEASE NOTE: This group lesson is not appropriate for beginner level skaters.

Utrecht Tricks Lesson Sun 2 July 2023 @ 1130-1330

Make your freestyle and flow skating stand out with these slow speed tricks.

In this class you’ll learn:

  • 2 foot heel/toe spins
  • Forward + Backward Pivots & Spirals
  • Moonwalk
  • Barrel Roll

We will then play at linking together these moves into smooth freestyle flows.

Utrecht Wizard Skating Sun 2 July 2023 @ 1500-1700

This Wizard class is a natural continuation from our Backwards & Transitions class and looks at developing your backwards skating so you can transition multiple ways with confidence & link together skills for impressive looking Wizard flows.

You can do this workshop on a flat set up or a rockered Wizard set up. Suitable only for inline skaters.

What you'll learn:

  • 4 essential training positions for backwards success
  • Gazelles (forwards & backwards)
  • Assisted 3 Turns (Cheetahs) - preparation for 3 Turns (Lions)
  • How to safely increase the speed of your Mohawk transitions

The best preparation for this class is to attend our Backwards & Transitions lesson to ensure you haven’t skipped any foundation skills.
