Group Skating Lessons Sat 13 - Sun 14 July 2024

Asha returns to San Francisco after a 5 year absence. Choose from her most popular classes and improve your stopping techniques, skating stride, speed, turns urban skills & backwards.

The Skatefresh Method of building skills from multiple progressions will have you fixing your bad habits and progressing faster in a weekend that you usually do in months.

Asha will be skating the San Francisco Friday Night Skate on Friday 12th July. Hope to see you there. Meet at 9pm at the Ferry Building.

Wonderful skating weekend with a great coach. I was able to improve my technique under her sharp eyes. It is amazing how she can look at the students and instantly point out what is wrong.

San Francisco: Stops & Slides Level 1 – Sat 13th July 2024 @1000-1200

In stock

The most important of ALL skills on inline & roller skates is how to stop and every skater should have several, high functioning stopping methods in their repertoire (to avoid accidents and injuries). This workshop looks at the easier stops, while “Stops, Slides & Slopes Level 2” looks at the more challenging methods.

The majority of skaters do not realise that by neglecting their stopping methods they not only increase their risks of falls and injuries but also reduce their learning of other skills such as speed skating, crossovers and street skating.

What you'll learn;

  • Plough Stop (2 versions)
  • T-Stop (so that it actually stops you)
  • Turn Stops (various options)

This 2 hr workshop is NOT suitable for beginners, who should focus 100% on mastering the Heel Brake Stop or Toe Stop Drag before any other methods.

San Francisco: Stride & Fitness – Sat 13th July 2024 @1300-1500

In stock

Every skater spends MOST of their time on skates JUST SKATING! However, if your skating stride lacks fundamental technique, you will not get the fitness benefits that skating offers and you may even create bad habits over time that can lead to ‘slow onset injuries’ particularly if you skate distances (e.g. ankle, knee, hip pains from persistent pronation on an inside edge). What you’ll learn;

  • An efficient push.
  • A correct, comfortable glide, in terms of edges, balance and cadence.
  • A regroup that doesn't V.
  • The Stride Training Sequence. The drill to keeps your stride on track for months & years to come.

“This class transformed my skating. I never knew how many things I was doing wrong. Feels great to be on the right path now and I understand what a workout skating should be if you’re doing it right.” - Analise (46) Belgium

“OMG! Since I started doing the drills from this class my stride is much more relaxed, my form is better and my back and knee are not hurting anymore. Thank you so much." - Chris, UK

This workshop does not cover the Double Push (although most skaters fail with the double push because their normal fitness stride lacks the correct foundations). This class is an essential prerequisite for the Double Push however.

PLEASE NOTE: This group lesson is appropriate for every level of skater except beginners.

San Francisco: Backwards & Transitions – Sat 13th July 2024 @1630-1830

In stock

This lesson is for those new to backward skating or those who have taught themselves but skipped the basics and are stuck on more complicated backwards moves.

This class will reveal your “one-sidedness” if you are already skating backwards and how to equalise this natural unevenness.

In this workshop you’ll learn;

  • Several propulsion techniques
  • How to steer correctly
  • How to safely glide backwards
  • How to stop backwards (2 methods)
  • Mohawk Transitions (forwards to backwards and backwards to forwards).

This compact course will give you content that will keep you busy training for months but with a clear path to backwards proficiency.

PLEASE NOTE: This group lesson is NOT appropriate for beginner level skaters.

“I had the pleasure of attending Asha’s skating workshops in Melbourne and her way of teaching “the Skatefresh method” is unlike anything else. Even seasoned skaters at the workshops have gained new knowledge and I’ve unlocked stopping methods that were previously alien to me! Totally worth every minute and the skills gained will be invaluable for years to come.”

A lesson with Asha wins over hours of YouTube video searching. It’s an experience that is definitely worth the time and money spent.”

San Francisco: Turns & Crossovers – Sun 14th July 2024 @1000-1200

In stock

Confident and fluent turns (in both directions) are obviously essential skills for cornering, but they’re also prerequisites for any turn stops and the Powerstop (which is on most intermediate skaters’ wish list).

In this class you will learn and improve;

  • Parallel Turns (both directions & varying sizes)
  • Anti-parallel Turns (both directions)
  • Lunge Turns (both directions & varying sizes)

Forward Crossovers when done well should create smooth acceleration and admiring glances. But often they create anxiety and have a low(ish) upper speed limit. Make your weaker side feel a lot less weird.

This class is highly recommended if you are wanting to attend Stops & Slides 2 (unless your Lunge turns are already 2m in diameter).

PLEASE NOTE: This group lesson is not appropriate for beginner level skaters.

San Francisco: Stops & Slides Level 2 – Sun 14th July 2024 @1300-1500

This class will look at the more challenging sliding stops and how best to combine different stopping methods for maximum efficiency and safety on the flat and on slopes.

What you’ll learn;

  • Powerslide (from a forwards entry using your favourite transition and favourite sliding leg)
  • Soul Slide (the ‘forwards powerslide, used by the downhillers for a reason).
  • Powerstop (or Turn stop variations)
  • Magic Slide (for those with a successful pre-requisite Soul Slide)
  • How to control your speed (for future use on slopes) by combining different stopping skills and how to come to a complete stop in an emergency.

(We will take a break during this class at 2pm to watch the dancing “Showcase” at 6th Avenue skate space. When that concludes we’ll continue class. I don’t want to miss it!)

San Francisco: Urban Skate Skills – Sun 14th July 2024 @1600-1800

Skating on streets and pavements is challenging and too many skaters embark on this journey without the necessary skills to keep them safe and efficient. In this class you'll learn;
  • How to accelerate efficiently (so you have the speed to safely roll over surface obstacles).
  • How to skate over rough surfaces.
  • How to handle surface obstacles, bumps, metal covers & cracks.
  • How to use your best stopping methods in emergency situations.
  • How to skate up and down kerbs safely (so you can easily swap from road to pavement and vice versa).
  • How to safely skate over train tracks.
PLEASE NOTE: In order to attend this class you:
1. Need to have at least 2 functional stopping methods and be able to do a rolling scissor position for several metres.
2. Need to have completed either "Stops & Slides 2" and/or "Stride/Fitness Optimizer”. You cannot street skate safely if you can’t stop or push, glide & control your edges.
