Rotterdam
22 - 24 JULY 2022Join Asha for 3 days of skating, touring and lesson time in and around the Dutch city of Rotterdam
The Netherlands is every skater’s dream – miles and miles of high quality tarmac and not a hill in sight!
The city of Rotterdam is famous for its port, the biggest container port in Europe. Historically fascinating, and left virtually derelict at the end of World War 2, the new city has risen from the ashes with stunning architecture and beautiful green parks, all connected by a maze of canals and cycle tracks.
One of Skatefresh’s original trippers lives in the city and will be our chief marshal.
Rotterdam has excellent travel connections as well, with Eurostar from Central London in less than 4 hrs, Paris in less than 3hrs, and only one hour’s flight from London City Airport.
Trip Itinerary
Friday 22 July 2022
We kick off the Rotterdam Trip by meeting at Centraal Station at 1830 and travelling 30mins to Utrecht where we will join the local Friday Night Skate (as Rotterdam doesn’t have a night skate). We’ll return by train after the night skate.

Saturday 23 July 2022 @1000
We’ll meet at Centraal Station at 10am and within 15 mins be out in the countryside, counting windmills and enjoying the kms of smooth, flat, high quality Dutch tarmac.
The focus of this trip will be your skating stride with Asha on hand to correct your faults and enhance your efficiency. The average speed of this trip will be slightly higher than normal Skatefresh Trips so that faster skaters can stretch their legs with longer sections between rests. Nowhere is better suited to this than Holland and its’ countryside network of paths and trails.
We will follow the Rotte River and have a late group lunch en route and a shorter post lunch skate to return to Rotterdam via Kralingse Plas. You’ll be free in the evening to rest and eat.
Sunday 24 July 2022 @0930
Starting again from Centraal Station we’ll skate on a Rotterdam City Tour, seeing all the major sights including the harbour area and Schiedam and return to the city from the south west via a tunnel. We will stop for lunch somewhere with a selection of restaurants to choose from. We will aim to finish the tour by 1530-1600 with final drinks and farewells.
As with all Skatefresh Trips there will also be lesson time built into the tour to work on other skills, primarily stopping skills from higher speeds (using combinations of slowing and stopping skills), as well as slides, jumps, crossovers and backwards. You will leave this trip a more rounded skater with a deeper understanding and practice of what makes for a good looking skating stride.

We ask for a non-returnable deposit of £50 to reserve your place. Balance payable by end June 2022.

If you do not use a heel brake then you must be able to control your speed and stop on downhill slopes using any other stopping methods. The ability level of participants on the Trip needs to be closely matched so that the chosen terrain and average speeds can be appropriate for everyone and allow for greater learning.
