Group Class Schedule:

Saturday 1st June 2019

Level: Advanced Beginners, Intermediates, Advanced Intermediates
Time: 10am – 1pm
Location: Central Park

The Most important of ALL skate skills is how to stop and every skater should have several high functioning Stopping methods in their tool kit. We begin with the easier stops (excluding heel brake) and work through to the more complex ones.

The majority of skaters do not fully realise that by neglecting their stopping methods they not only increase their risks but also impede their learning of other skills such as fitness and speed skating.

This Stops and Slides class has been taught in almost every city on Asha’s World Tour. The success rate of skaters leaving this class with a brand new, sliding Powerslide (from forward entry) has often been as high as 80%. This is what a recent Powerslider commented after class;
“I’ve watched your Powerslides for years and thought it the coolest and most impossible stop and one that I certainly would never get. I feel like a small child now with my impossible dream realized. I can Powerslide. This has been the best day ever.”

This workshop is NOT suitable for beginners (who should focus 100% on mastering the Heel Brake Stop before any other methods).

  • Stepping Plough Stop
  • T-Stop (so that it actually stops you. Both feet and on corners for more adv)
  • Turn Stops (Slalom, Parallel and Lunge)
  • Powerslide (forwards entry)
  • Soul Slide
  • Magic Slide
  • Combining Stops into functional sequences (eg, T-Stop into Plough or Turn Slalom into T-Stop into Powerslide).

Saturday 1st June 2019

Level: Advanced Beginners & Intermediates
Time: 3pm to 6pm
Location: Central Park

This class will polish your Turns (both Parallel and Lunge) and you’ll discover why your weaker direction feels so ‘weird’. Using Turns to stop is an essential skill which demands turns to be fluent and smooth. Forward Crossovers bring the thrill of acceleration and mark your arrival as an Intermediate skater.

Learning and mastering how to Jump on skates will increase your confidence and make you feel seriously Bad-Ass. Jumps are useful for avoiding debris, water, manhole covers and other urban ‘stuff’. Asha’s jumping method will give you guaranteed safe landings and a new favourite skill to show off. Those more advanced will try forward to backward jumps and backwards to backwards jumps.

Forward Crossovers bring the thrill of acceleration on corners and mark your arrival as an Intermediate skater. Do your Crossovers feel fun and exciting or wobbly and unnerving?

Unfortunately, getting them wrong at speed can leave you really freaked out.

This class will have you smiling with exhilaration and new found power and freedom on your skates. As one participant recently said after this class;

“I had no idea I’d be able to do any of those things. Wow, feels so amazing”.

Sunday 2nd June 2019

Level: Advanced Beginners & Intermediates
Time: 11am to 1.30pm
Location: Central Park  – East Drive (near 90th St),%209001%E2%80%939361%20East%20Dr,%20New%20York,%20NY%20%2010024,%20United%20States&ll=40.784547,-73.958552&q=Marked%20Location&_ext=EiYpJoVTPdpjREAx0fS3Cbt9UsA5pFp5mQBlREBBLU8PqPh8UsBQBA%3D%3D&t=m

We all spend MOST of our time on skates JUST SKATING! However if your Skating Stride lacks the fundamentals you will not get the Fitness benefits that skating offers. More
seriously, you may have created bad habits over time (such an inside edge pronation) that can lead to ‘slow onset injuries’ if left unchecked.

There are 3 parts to your skating Stride; The Push, the Glide and the Regroup.
All 3 must be correct for the stride to flow, look good and produce sustained high speeds (and feel great).

Are you Pushing efficiently?
Is your Glide correct in terms of edges and cadence?
Is your Regroup maximising your Stride or is it destroying all the hard work you just put in?

Asha’s series of Stride Exercises are designed to progressively train all 3 parts of your stride and help you understand what’s needed for super smooth (and fast) skating.
This workshop will leave you with many drills to train and perfect over coming weeks which will improve your technique and your fitness and lower body strength if you do them regularly.

This class will not cover the Double Push (but this perfect stride is the most important prerequisite for a strong Double Push).

Your skating will never be the same again and your bad habits will begin to fade with the tools you pick up in this class.
