Fri 1 - Sun 3 JULY 2022

Join Asha for a weekend of Skills, Fitness and Speed Skating Training in and around Cambridge.

Who says we have to go to Europe to get smooth, beautiful skating conditions?

Asha will be working with each skater individually to correct and improve their Stride while also giving group skills lessons and focus points throughout the two days.

Cambridge is easy to travel to, with trains from Central London usually taking less than 1 hr (Kings Cross to Cambridge Central).

Trip Itinerary

Optional Friday Night Street Skate 1st July 2022 – 7 to 9pm

Please Note: This is NOT part of the weekend trip (although Asha will be participating).

The local Cambridge Skaters group will schedule their weekly street skate for Friday 9 July in order to welcome any Trippers who wish to add a night skate to their weekend. The level of skating required would be similar to a London Friday Night Skate. You can join their Facebook group to see some videos from previous events or to ask further questions.

Saturday 2nd July 2022 – 9:45am to 3pm

Meeting Point: Cambridge Station at 9.30am for 9.45 departure

We begin the weekend skating from Cambridge Station (the station nearest to Cambridge City Centre) along the “Southern Busway” cycle path, a smooth track looping through the countryside and quiet residential areas offering interesting and unique lesson spots.

We will work on your stopping techniques and slides (T-Stop, Stepping Plough Stop and Powerslides) and street agility skills (kerbs, tricky terrain, obstacles etc). We will also look at your crossovers (forwards or backwards wherever you’re at) plus your downhill descents on a couple of awesome bridges. Your skills will receive a thorough revision and update and you’ll emerge a more confident skater able to deal with real life situations with refined technique and prowess (that’s the idea anyway).
Total distance 7 miles skating plus lesson time.

There will be time for some on foot exploring of beautiful Cambridge after skating.

Sunday 3rd July 2022 – 9:45am to 4pm

Meeting Point: Cambridge North Station at 9.30am

We focus on your skating stride, efficiency and fitness while skating from Cambridge North Station to Saint Ives (and back), skating a marathon in one day (with a stop for lunch after 13 miles).

Plenty of time to polish your Stride work (improving your Push, Glide and Regroup). We will also play with some drafting and increasing your stamina and looking at arm swing options and how to skate when you feel fatigue (which is normal when skating or training for a marathon). There will also be some skater-specific stretching and yoga both pre and post skate.

The track is completely flat and extremely smooth (much like Holland) and even boasts a windmill along the way!

We aim to arrive back at Cambridge North Station at around 3-4 pm when the trip will end.

Ability Level Requirements

This trip is NOT appropriate for beginner skaters and all participants must be able to skate and stop confidently (using at least the heel brake). If you do not use a heel brake then you must be able to control your speed and stop on downhill slopes using any other stopping methods. The ability level of participants on the Trip needs to be closely matched so that the chosen terrain and average speeds can be appropriate for everyone and allow for greater learning.

Please do NOT make any travel or accommodation arrangements until you have been officially accepted onto the Trip (by email).

Travel and Accommodation

Once you have been accepted onto the Trip after Registration, you should make your travel and accommodation bookings.

Skaters are recommended to choose accommodation close to the meeting point(s) to reduce your travel times and maximise your sleep/recovery time!
